Painting the Pantry Wall

The outside wall, that is. The pantry is full of food and while it does need some organization help (wire shelves and anything that is not a cereal box don't play nice) it's literally one of the most organized spaces in the house. The pantry wall needed painting because I wanted to hang hooks on the wall, but it seemed ridiculous to hang them, then have to remove them to paint, and then to hang them again. So in order to save myself . . . not very much work, I opted to paint two small walls.

This space has become my desk/eating space. (That's exactly what this table did in Austin, to be fair. I sometimes imagine being so grown up I actually work at a desk, and then I remember that my dad regularly works at the kitchen table and he's definitely a grown up. I digress.) Here's two shots of the space cleared of table and chair:

Both walls had been primed, though obviously the one wall only got one coat on the green. Except for that funny corner along the door, where we were trying to use up a pan of primer. . .

This is after the first coat of Whisper White. It already looks so much better! I also did a little bit of touching up over the garage door, but mostly it was all about getting paint on those two walls.
Phin was not a fan of how the furniture got shifted in the kitchen; here he is laying out in the yard, trying to say "I'm a sad dog and my life is terrible" but instead he's taking a nap in the sun. The poor dear. He  had a run in with a paint pan when we were painting the living room which has made him much more anxious around paint - having 3 people yell was not his favorite. To be far to us, we yelled at my dad to not let Phin into the house from the yard before we yelled at the dog for stepping into a pan of paint. ANYWAY he saw the paint pan come out and went slinking away to the yard. (ALSO WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT SKY????)

And here's the finished corner! I forgot to take any daylight photos, but I got the painting done yesterday, discovered there weren't any studs in the wall where I wanted to hang the rack of hooks, and ordered drywall anchors. I got the rack hung in under 10 minutes and look at that! A place for my bags and another coat (everyone keeps two coats in super easy access of their door, right?). (Also, the table was way more neat and organized in the before photo #reallife!)

In case you were like, Madeline, it looks the same, here's a closeup of the corner of the kitchen where the painted wall meets the primed wall, and you can see my . . . less than stellar cutting job to get a sense of the contrast between the primer and the wall. The primer totally looks white right up until I put Whisper White next to it, when it magically becomes a very pale grey.

So: thanks high school friends, for giving me a good reason to get some projects knocked off the list - this was such an easy win that now I'm like "priming the rest of the kitchen wouldn't be that hard." Except for moving the fridge, SO MUCH TAPING, and painting up high in weird corners over counters. But I could definitely do it in an afternoon. Definitely.
